Broadcast versus suspended, and how coarse to go

Slip resistance is added in the last coat, because the last coat is the one your foot touches. That is the single rule that governs this category, and it is why the decision has to be made before the topcoat is mixed rather than after the floor is finished.

There are two ways to do it. A suspended additive is stirred into the topcoat and stays in the film, which gives even texture but needs stirring during application so the aggregate does not settle in the pail. A broadcast additive is thrown into the wet topcoat and then locked with a final clear pass, which gives a more aggressive and more controllable profile.

Grit size is the trade-off nobody gets to escape. Coarser gives more traction and a harder floor to clean, because texture holds dirt. Finer cleans easily and gives less bite. Match the aggressive profile to the exposure. A ramp, a wash-down area or an entry that sees rain water needs real texture. A showroom does not, and a customer who asked for a slick gloss floor and got sandpaper will not be happy about it.

Sample it before you commit. Coat a board, add the additive at your intended rate, and let the customer walk on it barefoot or in work boots as appropriate. Aggregate type also matters visually, since some materials stay invisible in a clear coat and others cloud it.

Coverage on additives is stated per unit of resin or per square foot, so calculate from the topcoat quantity rather than from the floor area alone.

How do you make an epoxy floor non-slip?

An epoxy or polyaspartic floor is made slip resistant by adding an anti-slip aggregate to the final coat, either suspended in the topcoat or broadcast into it while wet and locked down with a clear pass. It has to go in the last layer, since that is the surface underfoot.

What grit anti-slip additive should I use?
