Patching spalls and pits so the coating stays flat
A patch kit solves the problem a pourable crack filler cannot, which is missing material. Spalls, pop-outs, chipped joint edges and gouges need something that can be troweled into place, held on a vertical or feathered edge, and then shaped once it hardens.
Fast setting two-part fillers are the trade standard here for a simple reason. They cure hard enough to grind or sand within the same shift, so the repair and the preparation happen on the same visit rather than costing a return trip. That speed comes with a short working time, so mix small and work one repair at a time.
Ratio matters. These fillers use a small amount of hardener relative to the filler, and both too little and too much cause problems. Too little leaves a soft patch that never fully hardens. Too much can flash off quickly and discolor. Mix on a clean board until the color is completely uniform, with no streaks.
Preparation for a patch is the same as for any bond. Remove all loose and crumbling concrete back to a sound edge, clean out the dust, and key the surface. Feather the patch slightly proud and grind it flush afterward, since a patch left low will read as a dish under the finished coating and a patch left high shows as a bump.

How much hardener goes into a body filler patch?
Two-part body fillers use a small measured amount of cream hardener relative to the filler, at the ratio printed on the container. Too little hardener leaves a soft patch that never cures properly, and too much shortens working time sharply and can discolor the repair.
Can you coat over a concrete patch?
You can coat over a concrete patch once the patch is fully cured, ground flush and dust free, and once you have confirmed the coating is compatible with that repair material. Patches sometimes absorb differently from the surrounding slab, so priming the repaired area helps keep the finish uniform.
