Bondo Cream Hardener

Bondo Cream Hardener is the catalyst half of a two-part polyester filler system. Without it the filler never kicks. It is sold separately because hardener is the part that gets used up, dries out in a half-squeezed tube in a hot truck box, or goes missing entirely on the morning you need it.

On concrete coating work the hardener controls the one thing you actually care about on a patch: how long you have to place and shape the material before it goes off. Mix ratio and working time are printed on the filler container and in the manufacturer's instructions. Follow those rather than eyeballing it. Contractors get into trouble on both ends. Too little hardener and the patch stays soft, sands gummy and never fully cures under a coating. Too much and it flashes off in the mixing cup before it gets to the floor, and over-catalyzed polyester can discolor and stay brittle.

Temperature moves the working window in the same direction as extra hardener. A cup of filler mixed on a 95 degree slab in direct sun will kick noticeably faster than the same mix indoors in the spring. Mix small batches, keep the material out of the sun, and use a clean non-porous mixing board so nothing contaminates the batch.

A patch is prep, not a finish. The reason mix accuracy matters is that a soft or under-cured filler will keep moving under the coating, and a repair that moves telegraphs straight through a finished floor. Get the mix right, let the patch harden fully, grind it flush and vacuum the dust before you prime.

Store the hardener sealed and out of the heat. It has a shelf life, and old hardener that has separated or hardened in the tube should be thrown away rather than used on a floor you are about to coat.
