3M 16 inch sanding screen discs run under a rotary floor machine for screening and abrading. The mesh has larger openings and a more consistent weave than a paper-backed disc, so mineral clumping is reduced and the screen keeps cutting instead of loading up. The heavier mesh is also what gives it the longer life.
In coating work the screen disc is an intercoat and finish tool, not a prep tool. It knocks down nibs, dust inclusions and roller texture between coats, scuffs a cured coating so the next coat has something to bite, and abrades a floor lightly without going after the concrete itself. If the slab needs the surface removed, a coating stripped or a real profile opened up, that is a diamond grinding job. A screen will not do it and should not be asked to.
Because the mesh is open, dust passes through it rather than packing behind it, which is why screens pair well with a vacuum-equipped machine. Sold twelve to a pack, which is how they get consumed: screens are a per-floor cost, not a tool you keep.
