Good to know
- The filters need reusable 501 retainers. They come with the respirator or in the 3M 6023 Replacement Kit, so check what you have before ordering this kit on its own.
- OV/P95 is matched to organic vapors and particulate. It is not universal media. Read the safety data sheet for the product you are working with and match the cartridge to it, especially around acids.
- A respirator does not replace ventilation. Move air, open the space, and keep ignition sources away from solvent work regardless of what you are wearing.
- Cartridges have a service life once opened. Replace on 3M's change schedule rather than waiting until you can smell solvent through the mask.
About the 3M Performance Supply Kit
The 3M 6022 Performance Supply Kit OV/P95 contains replacement cartridges and filters for the 3M Performance Reusable Paint Project Respirator, 6000 series. It combines organic vapor cartridges with P95 particulate filters, so it covers the two exposures that show up together on coating work: solvent vapor and airborne particulate. 3M states the cartridge breathes 35% easier and lists it for certain paint spraying, adhesives, sealants and solvents, for work and occupational use.
The filters require reusable 501 retainers. Those retainers ship with the 3M Performance Reusable Paint Project Respirator or in the 3M 6023 Replacement Kit, so if you bought the mask new you already have them. Confirm you have them before you order cartridges alone.
Cartridge selection is the part people get wrong. OV/P95 is matched to organic vapors and particulate. It is not the right media for every chemical in a coating shop, and it is not a substitute for ventilation. Acids and certain other exposures call for different cartridges. Match media to the product on your job by reading the safety data sheet for what you are actually spraying or wiping, and replace cartridges on the schedule 3M sets rather than when you start to smell something.
What it is used for
- Solvent wiping and cleanup with acetone, xylene or alcohols
- Spray applying coatings, adhesives and sealants
- Mixing and pouring resin systems in enclosed spaces
- Keeping spare media on the truck so a crew is never working uncovered
Questions about this product
What does the 3M 6022 Performance Supply Kit include?
The 3M 6022 Performance Supply Kit OV/P95 contains replacement organic vapor cartridges and P95 particulate filters for the 3M Performance Reusable Paint Project Respirator, 6000 series. 3M lists it for certain paint spraying, adhesives, sealants and solvents in work and occupational settings.
Which respirator does the 3M 6022 kit fit?
The 3M 6022 Performance Supply Kit fits the 3M Performance Reusable Paint Project Respirator in the 6000 series, used with reusable 501 filter retainers. Those retainers are supplied with the respirator itself or in the 3M 6023 Replacement Kit and are not included in this cartridge kit.
Is an OV/P95 cartridge right for epoxy and solvent work?
OV/P95 media pairs an organic vapor cartridge with a P95 particulate filter, which covers solvent vapor and airborne particulate on typical coating work. It is not correct media for every chemical. Check the safety data sheet for the product you are using, particularly with acids, and match the cartridge to it.
How often should I change respirator cartridges?
Replace 3M 6022 cartridges and filters on the change schedule 3M publishes for the product and the exposure, not when you start smelling solvent through the mask. Odor breakthrough means the cartridge has already been overrun. Keep a spare kit on the truck so a used cartridge is never the only option.
