Good to know
- Match the edge to the field. An edge ground more aggressively than the rest of the floor shows as a visible border once the coating is on.
- Bond hardness pairs opposite the concrete. Softer bonds generally go on hard concrete and harder bonds on soft concrete. Getting that backwards glazes the wheel or burns through it.
- Use a shroud and a dust extractor. Hand grinding puts the operator right at the cut, and dry grinding concrete produces respirable crystalline silica.
- Call 817-676-6793 with your machine, the slab and what you are removing. There are eight configurations here, and the right one depends on all three.
About the TCS 7" Grinding Cup Wheel
The TCS 7 inch grinding cup wheel runs on a hand grinder for edge work, coating removal and profiling where a walk-behind machine cannot reach. It is offered in several configurations, including hybrid arrow, 12-1/4 inch PCD, 24 PCD, Megatron, Z Seg 25 soft, Arrow Seg 25 medium, turbo cutter and turbo fan.
The configuration is the decision, not the diameter. Broadly, PCD tooling is built for aggressive removal of coatings, glue and mastic. Segment and hybrid wheels move between removal and profiling depending on the segment and bond. Turbo styles cut and smooth. Bond hardness has to be matched to the concrete, since soft bonds are generally used on hard concrete and harder bonds on soft concrete, and getting that backwards means a wheel that glazes over or one that wears out in a morning.
Edge work is also where floors get ruined. A hand grinder concentrates a lot of removal in a small area, so the goal is to match the edge profile to the field the walk-behind machine leaves. An edge ground more aggressively than the field shows as a dark or textured border once the coating goes down, and that border is visible from the doorway forever.
Run it with a shroud and a dust extractor. Dry grinding concrete generates respirable crystalline silica, and hand grinding puts the operator's head right next to the cut. Call 817-676-6793 with your machine, your slab and what you are removing and we will match the right configuration rather than guessing from a list.
What it is used for
- Edge and perimeter grinding a walk-behind cannot reach
- Removing coatings, glue and mastic with PCD configurations
- Profiling concrete at corners, stairs and door thresholds
- Blending an edge into the field grind before coating
Questions about this product
What is a 7 inch grinding cup wheel used for?
A TCS 7 inch grinding cup wheel mounts on a hand grinder to grind edges, corners, stair treads and thresholds where a walk-behind machine cannot reach. Depending on the configuration it removes coatings, glue and mastic, or profiles the concrete ahead of a new coating.
Which cup wheel configuration should I choose?
PCD configurations are built for aggressive removal of coatings, glue and mastic, while segment and hybrid wheels handle profiling and general grinding, and turbo styles cut and smooth. Call Twin Coating Supplies at 817-676-6793 with your machine, slab and removal job and we will match it.
How do I keep the edge from looking different than the floor?
Match your edge grind to the profile the walk-behind machine leaves in the field, and blend the transition. Edges ground more aggressively than the field absorb coating differently and appear as a darker or rougher border around the room once the floor is finished.
Do I need dust collection for hand grinding?
Yes. Dry grinding concrete generates respirable crystalline silica, and hand grinding puts the operator's breathing zone right next to the cut. Run a shroud connected to a dust extractor, and wear appropriate respiratory protection alongside the engineering control rather than instead of it.
