Snap-off blades are a consumable, and on coating work they get consumed fast. Tape loaded with cured resin, plastic sheeting, film, foam backer and anything abrasive takes the edge off a blade in a hurry, and the cost of working with a dull one shows up as a torn tape line, a ragged transition or a hand slipping where it should not.
The whole idea of a snap-off strip is that you never have to decide whether a blade is dull enough to justify changing. When it drags, you break off the used segment and keep working on a fresh edge. Keeping a spare strip or two on the truck is what makes that habit possible on a job where nobody wants to walk back to the van.
