Crown Polymers Epoxy Accelerator

Crown Polymers Epoxy Accelerator is an additive that shortens the gel and cure time of an epoxy system. It exists for two situations. The first is cold weather, where an unheated slab drags a normal epoxy cure out well past the point the schedule allows, or stalls it entirely. The second is a compressed schedule, where the floor has to be recoated or returned to service faster than the base chemistry would allow on its own.

Accelerator is not a general improvement to a coating and it should not be a habit. It is a tool for a specific condition. Adding it costs you working time on the front end, because the same reaction that gets you a faster cure also gets you a shorter pot life. A material that gave you a comfortable window at room temperature can gel in the pail if it is accelerated and then mixed in large batches. Plan on smaller batches, more people on the floor, and having your squeegee and roller work staged before you mix.

The dosing rate belongs to the coating manufacturer, not to the accelerator bottle. Every epoxy formulation responds differently, and the correct addition is published against the specific product and the temperature you are working in. Follow that rate exactly. Overdosing does not just speed the cure, it can drive exotherm, affect gloss and color, and in a heavy film it can cause problems the floor cannot recover from. Do not eyeball it, and do not scale it up because the slab feels cold.

Before you use it on a floor, confirm the accelerator is approved for the exact system you are running, and mix a small batch to see what the working time actually becomes at the temperature on site. A half pint goes a long way, so the sensible way to buy is to have it on the truck for the cold morning that is coming rather than to order it the day you need it.
