Tex Tuff Universal Pigment Pack

Tex Tuff Universal Pigments are colored pigment dispersions formulated to tint 100% solid coating systems. They are compatible with high-solids epoxy, polyurethane, polyaspartic and polyurea coatings, which is what makes them useful in a shop that runs more than one chemistry. Instead of stocking a separate colorant for every resin on the shelf, you carry one pigment line and tint whatever the job calls for.

The dispersion form is the reason this works. The pigment is already wetted out and stabilized in a carrier, so it blends into the resin side without the clumping and grinding you get from a dry powder. That matters most on a color coat, where a single poorly dispersed clump shows as a dark streak that you cannot correct once the floor kicks. Mix the pigment into the resin completely, confirm the color is uniform through the whole pail, and only then add the hardener.

A pigment is not a stain. A stain or a dye penetrates into the concrete and colors the slab itself, leaving the variation of the concrete showing through. A pigment colors the coating film that sits on top of the slab, which means it is opaque, uniform, and it hides what is underneath rather than reacting with it. If the customer wants a mottled, variegated concrete look, pigment is the wrong product. If they want a consistent solid color, or a tinted base coat under a flake broadcast, pigment is exactly right.

The most common use is tinting a base coat to sit under flake. Matching the base coat to the dominant chip color in the blend means any thin spot in the broadcast disappears instead of flashing as a light patch. The second most common use is a straight solid color floor. In both cases the loading rate belongs to the coating manufacturer, not to the pigment, so follow the letdown ratio published for the system you are tinting. Over-pigmenting a 100% solids coating can affect flow, gloss and cure, and it is not a place to eyeball it.
