Good to know
- Pre-condition a new cover before the first pass. Lint that comes off in the first few feet of a floor ends up locked under the topcoat.
- Treat covers as single-use on epoxy and polyaspartic. Neither one cleans out reliably, and a partly cured cover sheds and drags on the next coat.
- Match nap to the system, not to habit. Confirm what the coating manufacturer specifies before you commit a full job to one cover type.
- Buy spares by the job. Running out of covers with mixed material in the pot costs far more than the covers do.
About the 18" Vantage Roller Cover
An 18 inch roller cover is the working width most floor coating crews settle on. A 9 inch cover is fine for cut-in and small patches, but on an open slab it doubles your passes and doubles the number of wet edges you have to keep alive. This Vantage cover fits standard 18 inch roller frames and is intended for rolling coatings onto concrete rather than for wall paint.
Use it the way floor coatings want to be used. Load the cover fully, lay the material out in a manageable section, and back-roll to even the film before the leading edge starts to set. On flake floors the roller is what puts down a consistent base coat for broadcast, and any roller lap or dry spot shows up in the finished floor once flake and topcoat go over it.
Roller covers are consumables on this kind of work. Epoxy and polyaspartic do not wash out, so plan on a fresh cover per batch or per coat rather than trying to save one overnight in a bag. Buying covers in quantity ahead of a job is cheaper than stopping mid-floor with a shedding cover and a pot of material that is already ticking.
Check what your coating manufacturer specifies for nap before you order for a specific system. Fast-set materials, high-build epoxies and thin sealers each want different amounts of pickup, and the nap that lays down a solid color epoxy is not always the one you want under a flake broadcast. If you are unsure what pairs with the system you are running, call 817-676-6793.
What it is used for
- Rolling epoxy base coat before a flake broadcast
- Solid color epoxy and urethane topcoats on garage and shop floors
- Sealer application on larger commercial slabs
- Back-rolling material spread with a squeegee or notched blade
Questions about this product
What is an 18 inch roller cover used for on concrete floors?
An 18 inch roller cover is the production width for applying epoxy, urethane, polyaspartic and sealers across open concrete slabs, and it cuts your pass count roughly in half compared with a 9 inch cover, which makes it far easier to keep a wet edge alive on a timed material.
Will this 18 inch cover fit my roller frame?
This 18 inch Vantage roller cover is sized for standard 18 inch roller frames, which is the common size floor coating crews already own, so check that your frame is an 18 inch frame rather than a 9 inch or 14 inch before ordering. Frame cage diameter should also be confirmed.
Can I clean and reuse a roller cover after epoxy?
Plan on treating roller covers as consumables when you are applying epoxy or polyaspartic, because neither material washes out of a nap reliably and a partly cured cover sheds fibers and drags on the following coat. Buy enough covers to run a fresh one per coat.
Should I roll or squeegee epoxy on a floor?
Most concrete floor coating crews do both, spreading the material with a squeegee or notched blade to get it out at the right rate and then back-rolling with an 18 inch cover to even the film and pull out squeegee lines. The roller controls the finished appearance, the squeegee controls the rate.
