Good to know

  • Strap them tight over the boot. A loose spiked shoe rolls on a wet floor, and a hand or a knee in fresh coating is not a repairable defect.
  • Lift straight up, do not drag. Dragging a spike through a wet film draws a line that will not close.
  • Plan your exit before you start. Know where you are stepping off and how you are getting the shoes off without tracking coating.
  • Replace spikes as a full set. Uneven spike length makes the shoe rock, and rocking is what marks the floor.
  • Check spike tightness before every install. Spikes back out under load and a loose one ends up in the coating.

About the Pro Finish Spikes Shoes

Spiked shoes are what let an installer stand in the middle of a wet floor and keep working. The spikes hold the wearer above the coating film and leave only pin marks that close behind them as the material levels, which is why every flake broadcast, self-leveling pour and metallic install depends on them. Without spikes you are working from the edges and you will run out of reach before you run out of floor.

These Pro Finish spiked shoes are offered in Large and X-Large. Fit matters more than it does with ordinary footwear because the shoe straps over your work boot and the whole assembly has to stay tight. A loose spiked shoe rolls underfoot on a wet floor, and that is how installers put a hand or a knee into a coating they cannot repair.

Walk deliberately. Lift each foot straight up rather than dragging, keep your weight centered, and plan your exit before you start so you are never backing yourself into a corner of wet material. Have a place to step off and a way to get the shoes off without walking coating across a clean floor.

Spikes are the wear item and they are replaceable. Check them before every install, replace them as a full set when they get short or bent, and keep spare hardware on the truck. Twin Coating Supplies also stocks replacement spikes for the Midwest Rake S550 Professional platform. Uneven spike length is what makes a shoe rock, and rocking is what leaves a mark in a floor you are being paid to make flawless.

What it is used for

  • Broadcasting flake into a wet epoxy base coat
  • Walking self-leveling and metallic floors during placement
  • Back-rolling and smoothing in the field of a wet floor
  • Detail and touch-up work on a coating that is still open

Questions about this product

What are spiked shoes used for on epoxy floors?

Spiked shoes let an installer walk out onto a wet coating and keep working, holding the wearer above the film so only pin marks are left behind and those close as the material levels. Flake broadcast, self-leveling and metallic installs all depend on being able to reach the middle of the floor.

What sizes do Pro Finish spiked shoes come in?

Pro Finish spiked shoes are offered in Large and X-Large, and they strap over your work boot rather than replacing it, so the fit should be tight enough that the assembly does not shift underfoot. A loose spiked shoe rolls on a wet floor and that is how installers fall into a coating.

Do spiked shoes leave marks in the coating?

Properly maintained spiked shoes leave only small pin marks that close as a wet coating levels, but a shoe with uneven, bent or missing spikes rocks underfoot and leaves heel marks and swirl that do show in the finish. Replace spikes as a full set before they get short.

How should I walk on a wet floor in spiked shoes?

Walking a wet floor in spiked shoes means lifting each foot straight up rather than dragging it, keeping your weight centered, moving deliberately, and planning your exit route before you step onto the material. Dragging a spike through a wet film draws a line that will not close.
