Good to know

  • The notch controls spread rate. Match it to the film build your coating manufacturer specifies, then back-roll to even the film.
  • Flat stiff pushes material, flat flex follows the slab. Neither meters material the way a notch does, so pick based on what the coat needs.
  • Change blades before a floor that matters. Nicks and cured resin on the edge draw lines the length of every pass.
  • Confirm your frame is the S550 Professional. Squeegee blade mounting is not shared across platforms.
  • Wider is faster but only where the room allows it. A 27 in blade that cannot complete a clean pull leaves a stop mark.

About the Midwest Rake® S550 Professional™ EasySqueegee® Blade

This is the replacement blade for the Midwest Rake S550 Professional EasySqueegee, offered in 18, 26 and 27 inch widths and in flat stiff, flat flex and notched profiles in the 15-20, 25-30, 40-45 and 50-60 ranges.

The notch is the control. On a coating job the squeegee is what meters the material onto the slab, and the notch size determines how much of it goes down per pass. Choose a notch too small and you starve the floor and fight to reach coverage. Choose one too large and you put down more material than the system is designed to carry, which costs money on every square foot and can cause the coating to behave differently than the data sheet says. Pick the notch that matches the film build your coating manufacturer specifies for the system you are installing, then back-roll to even it out.

Flat blades do a different job. A flat stiff blade pushes and moves material, which is what you want for spreading a broadcast base coat quickly or pulling excess. A flat flex blade follows the slab more closely and is better for pulling a thin, even film without leaving ridges. Neither one meters material the way a notched blade does.

Width is about the room. The 27 inch blade covers open field with the fewest passes, which matters on timed material, and the 18 inch works bays, garages and areas with obstructions where a wide blade cannot complete a clean pull.

Blades are wear items. Nicks, cured material on the edge and uneven wear all telegraph into the finished floor as lines and lap marks, so change them before a floor you care about. Confirm your frame is the S550 Professional before ordering, since squeegee blade mounting differs between platforms.

What it is used for

  • Metering epoxy at a controlled spread rate with a notched blade
  • Spreading a flake broadcast base coat with a flat stiff blade
  • Pulling thin even films with a flat flex blade
  • Replacing a worn or nicked blade before a visible floor

Questions about this product

What notch size should I use for epoxy?

Choose the EasySqueegee notch size that produces the film build your coating manufacturer specifies for the system you are installing, since the notch is what meters material onto the slab. This blade is offered in 15-20, 25-30, 40-45 and 50-60 notch ranges plus flat stiff and flat flex profiles.

What is the difference between a notched and a flat squeegee blade?

A notched squeegee blade meters a controlled amount of coating onto the floor with every pass, while a flat blade simply pushes or pulls material without metering it at all. Use notched blades when spread rate and film build matter, and flat blades for spreading a base coat or pulling excess.

Which blade width should I buy?

The Midwest Rake EasySqueegee blade comes in 18, 26 and 27 inch widths, and wider blades cover open field with fewer passes, which helps you stay ahead of a timed material. Choose the 18 inch for garages, bays and rooms with obstructions where a wide blade cannot pull cleanly.

Will this blade fit my squeegee frame?

This is a replacement blade for the Midwest Rake S550 Professional EasySqueegee frame, so confirm that is the frame you own before ordering, because squeegee blade mounting is not shared across manufacturers or platforms. Call 817-676-6793 if you are unsure which frame you have.

How often should squeegee blades be replaced?

Replace an EasySqueegee blade as soon as the edge shows nicks, uneven wear or cured coating that will not clean off, because any of those defects draw visible lines down the full length of every pass. Keep a fresh blade on the truck for floors where appearance is being sold.
