Good to know

  • Polyaspartic is not forgiving on timing the way epoxy is. Stage the crew, plan the pull and have the tools in hand before you mix, because a set edge cannot be rewet.
  • Heat and humidity both shorten the working window on polyaspartics. The same kit behaves differently in a July afternoon than in a conditioned space.
  • Polyaspartic cures in cold conditions where epoxy stalls, which is the main reason it is chosen for winter installs and unheated garages.
  • Mix ratio, pot life and full application detail are on the technical data sheet, available on request. Call 817-676-6793.
  • Ships as a regulated liquid under ground shipping rules. Call 817-676-6793 for freight on large or pallet orders.

About the Crown Polymers 8340 Kit

Crown Polymers 8340 is the polyaspartic in the Crown floor system, supplied clear in 3 gallon kits. Polyaspartic is the chemistry contractors move to when epoxy will not do the job, and the reasons are consistent across the class: it holds clarity and color under UV where epoxy ambers, it cures at low temperatures where epoxy stalls, and it returns a floor to service far faster.

In system position, a clear polyaspartic is normally the topcoat. It goes over a cured flake broadcast base that has been scraped and vacuumed, or over a solid color or metallic body coat, and nothing goes over it. Polyaspartics in this class are also used as a base coat for broadcasting flake when the whole floor has to be built and finished in a single day, which is the standard one day garage system that has taken over residential work.

What changes when you switch from epoxy to polyaspartic is the pace of the job. Working time is measured in tens of minutes rather than hours for most of the class, and heat and humidity shorten it further. The crew has to be staged, the pull pattern planned and the tools ready before the material is mixed, because you do not get to rewet an edge that has set. Contractors coming from epoxy consistently underestimate this on their first polyaspartic floor.

Mix ratio, pot life, working time, recoat window and return to service figures for 8340 specifically are on the Crown Polymers technical data sheet, available on request. We will not publish numbers we cannot source. Call 817-676-6793 and we will send the data sheet and help size the order to your square footage.

What it is used for

  • Clear topcoat over flake broadcast floors
  • One day garage floor systems
  • Cold weather installs where epoxy will not cure
  • Floors with UV exposure where epoxy would amber
  • Commercial spaces needing fast return to service

Before you order

Work out how much you need

The most common ordering mistake in this category is buying by the gallon instead of by the floor. Coverage changes with porosity, profile and whether the coat is a base, a broadcast or a topcoat. Put the slab dimensions in and get a range rather than a single number.

How much material do I need?

Enter the slab. We will give you a range, because porosity and surface profile change real coverage.

Floor area
400 sq ft
Base coat
3.1 to 3.4 gal
Topcoat (1 pass)
3.1 to 3.4 gal
Flake
about 8 x 25 lb boxes

Base coat, flake broadcast to rejection, then a clear topcoat. Order roughly 10% over on a first job.

Questions about this product

What is Crown Polymers 8340 used for?

Crown Polymers 8340 is a clear polyaspartic supplied in 3 gallon kits, used in Crown floor systems where the job needs UV stability, cold weather cure or a fast return to service. Clear polyaspartics in this class are typically applied as the final topcoat over a cured flake or body coat.

What is the pot life of Crown Polymers 8340?

Pot life and working time for Crown Polymers 8340 are on the manufacturer technical data sheet, available on request, and we do not publish a figure we cannot source. As a class, polyaspartics run far shorter working windows than epoxy, and heat and humidity shorten them further on site.

Can Crown Polymers 8340 be applied in cold weather?

Polyaspartic as a chemistry class cures at low temperatures where epoxy slows down or stalls entirely, and that is a common reason to specify Crown Polymers 8340 for winter work. Confirm the specific minimum application temperature on the technical data sheet before scheduling a cold install.

Does polyaspartic go under or over the flake?

Crown Polymers 8340 is a clear polyaspartic, so in a flake system it typically goes over the broadcast flake as the finish coat after the base has cured and the loose chip has been scraped and vacuumed. Polyaspartics are also used as the base coat itself in one day systems.

How much does a 3 gallon Crown 8340 kit cover?

Coverage for Crown Polymers 8340 depends on whether it is being pulled as a topcoat over a flake bed, which drinks material into the chip profile, or applied over a smooth body coat, which stretches much further. The technical data sheet carries the rate. Call 817-676-6793 to size an order.
