About the Rhino Bush Hammer
A bush hammer does not grind concrete, it fractures it. The 5 inch Rhino bush hammer carries carbide tips that hammer the surface as the head rotates, chipping away the top layer to expose aggregate and leave a deliberately rough texture. It is the tool you reach for when abrasion is not going to get you where you need to go.
There are three jobs it does well. The first is aggregate exposure for decorative and architectural work, where the point is the look of the stone in the slab. The second is slip resistance, on ramps, loading areas, wash-down areas and exterior work where a smooth surface is a liability. The third is opening a very hard, tight, closed slab that diamond tooling is glazing on rather than cutting into, where fracturing the surface gives you something to work with.
What a bush hammer is not is a coating removal tool. If you have epoxy, mastic or glue to strip, PCD tooling is faster, cleaner and cheaper. Bush hammering a coated floor tends to break the coating up into a mess and drive fragments into the surface.
Expect to follow it with a grinding pass on most jobs. The texture a bush hammer leaves is aggressive, and unless heavy texture is the finished product you will want a diamond step afterward to knock the peaks down and bring the surface to the profile the system needs.
