TCS New Grind Diamonds

TCS New Grind diamond segments are available in 16/18, 30/40, 70/80 and 120/150 grits, covering everything from an aggressive opening pass through to the finer refinement steps used in a polishing progression. Coating preparation usually stops in the coarser range, while a polished floor works progressively up through the finer grits.

Use a soft bond on hard concrete and a hard bond on soft concrete, which is backwards from what most buyers expect, because the bond has to erode fast enough to keep exposing fresh diamond as the segment works. On dense power-troweled slab a hard bond simply glazes over and stops cutting.

Coating preparation generally uses the coarser end of the range, often a 16/18 opening pass on rough or contaminated slabs and a 30/40 step to create an even, open profile, then a check against the concrete surface profile your coating manufacturer specifies. Fine polishing grits close the surface and hurt adhesion.

TCS New Grind diamond segments are made in the New Grind fitment, so verify your machine's plate pattern, segment positions and rotation direction before ordering, since tooling fitment is not shared across grinder brands. Single bar and double bar segments differ in how much diamond contact area sits at each plate position, with double bar putting more contact on the slab and generally running smoother, while single bar concentrates pressure and cuts more aggressively per unit of down force. Shape affects both cut rate and finish.

Skipping more than one grit step in a polishing progression usually costs you more time than it saves, because each step exists to remove the scratch pattern the previous one left and unremoved scratch shows up in the finished floor. On coating prep you legitimately need far fewer steps.
