Good to know

  • Coverage on a 100 percent solids epoxy swings hard by application. A flake broadcast base coat is applied heavy so the chip beds and stands. A solid color coat goes on thinner. Porous, open or heavily profiled concrete pulls noticeably more material than a tight, hard troweled slab.
  • Epoxy is temperature sensitive as a class. Cure slows sharply on a cold slab and stalls in low temperatures, so this is not the base coat for an unheated garage in January. Reach for a polyurea or polyaspartic base coat in those conditions.
  • Broadcast flake into the wet base coat to refusal while the epoxy is still open. Once it starts to gel you have lost the window and the flake will sit on top instead of locking in.
  • Mix ratio, mil thickness and recoat windows are on the technical data sheet, available on request. Call 817-676-6793 if you want it emailed before you order.
  • This ships as a regulated liquid under ground shipping rules. Large or pallet orders move by freight. Call 817-676-6793 for a freight quote.

About the Aras Epoxy 100% Solids Kit

Aras Epoxy 100% is the workhorse base coat in a flake or solid color floor system. It is a 100 percent solids epoxy, which the product name states, so what you roll out stays on the floor instead of flashing off as solvent. The formula was built around an extended working time, which is the difference between a clean flake broadcast and a panicked one when you are running a two car garage single handed.

In system position, this is the coat that sits directly on prepared concrete or over a primer, and it is the coat you broadcast flake into. Over the top goes a clear polyaspartic, polyurea or urethane topcoat once the base has cured and the loose flake has been scraped and vacuumed. For a solid color floor, tint it with epoxy pigment and either finish it as is or clear coat it for gloss and chemical resistance. For a decorative floor, mix it with metallic pigment and finish with a UV stable clear.

Leveling and flow are the reason installers reach for it. It self levels out of the notch squeegee and off the roller, which keeps roller stipple and lap lines out of a solid color floor. Low to no odor makes it usable in occupied houses and in tenant spaces where a solvented product would get you shut down.

The real buying decision is base coat chemistry. Epoxy gives you build, adhesion and forgiveness on price, and it is the right base under a flake floor in a conditioned space. Polyaspartic or polyurea is the answer when the slab is cold or the job has to be done in one day. If you are coating a heated garage in the fall, epoxy base with a polyaspartic topcoat is still the standard build.

What it is used for

  • Residential garage flake floor base coat
  • Solid color commercial and industrial floors
  • Metallic decorative floors when mixed with metallic pigment
  • Resurfacing worn but sound existing slabs
  • Body coat under a polyaspartic or urethane clear

Before you order

Work out how much you need

The most common ordering mistake in this category is buying by the gallon instead of by the floor. Coverage changes with porosity, profile and whether the coat is a base, a broadcast or a topcoat. Put the slab dimensions in and get a range rather than a single number.

How much material do I need?

Enter the slab. We will give you a range, because porosity and surface profile change real coverage.

Floor area
400 sq ft
Base coat
3.1 to 3.4 gal
Topcoat (1 pass)
3.1 to 3.4 gal
Flake
about 8 x 25 lb boxes

Base coat, flake broadcast to rejection, then a clear topcoat. Order roughly 10% over on a first job.

Questions about this product

How much floor does an Aras Epoxy 100% 3 gallon kit cover?

Aras Epoxy 100% coverage depends on how it is being used. As a flake broadcast base coat it is applied heavy so the chip beds properly, and as a solid color coat it goes on considerably thinner and stretches further. Slab porosity and grind profile change the number again, so use the technical data sheet rate for your application.

What goes under and over Aras Epoxy 100%?

Aras Epoxy 100% goes down over mechanically prepared concrete, or over a primer or moisture vapor barrier where the slab needs one. Over the top goes decorative flake broadcast into the wet coat, then a clear polyaspartic, polyurea or urethane topcoat once it has cured and the loose flake is scraped and vacuumed.

Can Aras Epoxy 100% be used as a solid color floor without flake?

Yes. Aras Epoxy 100% is tintable with epoxy pigment for solid color floors and mixes with metallic pigment for decorative finishes, so it is not limited to flake work. For a solid color floor in sunlight or near glass, put a UV stable clear over it, because epoxy ambers with UV exposure.

Can I apply Aras Epoxy 100% in a cold garage?

Not comfortably. Epoxy as a class slows dramatically as slab temperature falls and can fail to cure properly in cold conditions, and Aras Epoxy 100% follows that behavior. For cold weather installs, use a polyurea or polyaspartic base coat instead, or heat and hold the space through cure.

Why does Aras Epoxy 100% have a long working time?

Aras Epoxy 100% is formulated with extended working time so installers have room to cut in, spread and broadcast flake without racing the material. That is the main reason it suits both newer installers and crews taking on large single pour bays where the whole floor has to stay open at once.

Does Aras Epoxy 100% smell during application?

Aras Epoxy 100% uses a low to no odor formula, which makes it workable inside occupied homes, offices and tenant spaces where a solvented coating would drive people out. Ventilate anyway and wear a respirator rated for organic vapor and particulates during mixing and application.
