Good to know
- Metallic floors show everything under them. Grind flat, fill and patch, and vacuum properly, because a low viscosity epoxy will telegraph a bad substrate rather than hide it.
- This is a body coat, not a finish. Metallic epoxy needs a clear topcoat over it for abrasion resistance and for UV stability, and clear epoxy alone will amber in sunlight.
- Have the whole crew and all the tools staged before you mix. Metallic effects are developed while the epoxy is wet, and you cannot go back and rework a section that has started to set.

About the Aras Epoxy LV Metallic - 3 Gallon Kit
Aras Epoxy LV Metallic is the body coat for metallic decorative floors. The LV in the name is the point. A low viscosity epoxy stays open and mobile long enough for the pigment to move, which is what creates the depth, the veining and the movement that a metallic floor is sold on. A thick, fast setting epoxy will not do it.
In system position this is a body coat, not a primer and not a topcoat. It goes over prepared concrete that has usually been primed and often over a pigmented base coat that gives the metallic something to float against. Metallic pigment is dispersed into the mixed epoxy, the floor is squeegeed and back rolled, and then the installer works the surface with a torch, a leaf blower or a spiked roller to develop the pattern. Once cured, it needs a clear topcoat over it. Polyaspartic and urethane clears are the usual choice because they carry the gloss and add the abrasion resistance that a decorative floor needs to survive.
The buying decision here is between a metallic build and a flake build. Metallic sells at a higher ticket and looks like nothing else, but it is unforgiving. Every trowel mark, every bit of contamination and every roller lap shows in the final floor, and the pattern cannot be sanded back and redone without recoating. Flake hides sins. Metallic does not.
