Good to know
- This is a protect-the-look product, not a change-the-look product. If the customer wants more gloss than the polish gives, they are asking for a topical coating instead.
- Clean the floor properly first. Polishing slurry and construction residue left on the surface gets sealed in and cannot be corrected without reworking the floor.
- Polished floors still need routine maintenance after sealing. A sealer reduces staining and wear, it does not eliminate cleaning.
- Sold in 1 gallon and 5 gallon units. Order the whole floor at once so the entire slab is protected with consistent material.
About the Coval® Polished Concrete Sealer
Coval Polished Concrete Sealer protects polished concrete and terrazzo without changing the distinct, glossy sheen those floors already have. That single sentence is the whole reason this product exists, and it is worth being precise about what it means.
When a floor has been ground and polished to a mechanical shine, the shine belongs to the concrete itself, not to a coating. Put a conventional topical film over that floor and you have replaced a mechanical polish with a plastic gloss. It looks different, it wears differently, and from that day forward you own a maintenance cycle: the film scratches, it hazes, it delaminates in traffic lanes, and eventually somebody has to strip it and recoat. Owners who paid for polished concrete specifically to get away from coatings are rarely happy about that. Coval Polished Concrete Sealer is built for the other approach, which is to protect the polished surface while leaving its appearance alone.
That makes this a maintenance and protection decision rather than a decorative one. If the owner wants the floor to look different, brighter, glossier or darker, this is not the product. If the owner likes the floor exactly as polished and wants it to stay that way against foot traffic, spills and cleaning chemicals, this is exactly the product. The same logic applies to terrazzo, where the surface is the finish and nobody wants it changed.
Sold in 1 gallon and 5 gallon units. Apply to a clean floor. Any polished or terrazzo surface carries residue from grinding, polishing and construction cleanup, and residue under a sealer is residue you have locked in permanently. Get the floor properly cleaned first, then seal. Follow the manufacturer's application instructions for coverage and cure, and if you want those figures confirmed for your specific job, call Twin Coating Supplies at 817-676-6793 rather than working off a competitor's number.
What it is used for
- Protecting a newly polished concrete floor without adding a coating look
- Terrazzo floors in lobbies, schools and healthcare where the finish must stay as-is
- Retail and commercial polished floors that need spill and cleaner resistance
- Maintenance programs on existing polished concrete
Before you order
Work out how much you need
The most common ordering mistake in this category is buying by the gallon instead of by the floor. Coverage changes with porosity, profile and whether the coat is a base, a broadcast or a topcoat. Put the slab dimensions in and get a range rather than a single number.
How much material do I need?
Enter the slab. We will give you a range, because porosity and surface profile change real coverage.
- Floor area
- 400 sq ft
- Base coat
- 3.1 to 3.4 gal
- Topcoat (1 pass)
- 3.1 to 3.4 gal
- Flake
- about 8 x 25 lb boxes
Base coat, flake broadcast to rejection, then a clear topcoat. Order roughly 10% over on a first job.
Questions about this product
Will Coval Polished Concrete Sealer change how my floor looks?
No. Coval Polished Concrete Sealer is made to protect polished concrete and terrazzo without changing the distinct, glossy sheen the floor already has. That is the point of the product. Owners who paid for a mechanical polish keep the polished look and gain surface protection.
How is this different from a regular topical concrete sealer?
A topical acrylic or urethane sealer forms a film on top of the slab, which changes the sheen and eventually has to be stripped and recoated. Coval Polished Concrete Sealer is intended to protect the polished or terrazzo surface while leaving its existing appearance intact.
Can I use it on terrazzo?
Yes. Coval Polished Concrete Sealer is made for polished concrete and terrazzo, both of which are surfaces where the finish itself is the floor. It protects them against traffic, spills and cleaning chemicals without replacing that finish with a coating film.
Does the floor need to be cleaned before sealing?
Yes, thoroughly. Coval Polished Concrete Sealer should go over a clean polished or terrazzo surface, because polishing slurry, construction dust and cleaner residue left behind get sealed in permanently. Any residue trapped under the sealer becomes a defect you cannot wipe off later.
How often does a polished floor need resealing?
Resealing interval for Coval Polished Concrete Sealer depends on traffic, cleaning practice and how hard the floor is worked. High-traffic retail and warehouse floors need attention far sooner than a lightly used lobby. Follow the manufacturer's maintenance guidance, and call 817-676-6793 if you want help scoping a maintenance cycle.
