Good to know

  • Cut in immediately ahead of the field crew so the perimeter is still wet when the big roller laps into it. A gelled edge flashes and shows as a picture frame around the floor.
  • On a flake floor the perimeter still has to accept chip, so do not let the cut-in skin over before the broadcast reaches it.
  • Nap depth controls film build. Shorter nap lays less material and a tighter film, which keeps the perimeter from sitting heavier than the field.
  • Covers used in resin are throwaways. Buy enough for the job rather than trying to reclaim one.

About the Linzer Pro Edge Mini Roller

The mini roller is the cut-in tool. Before the field of a floor gets squeegeed and back-rolled, somebody has to run the perimeter, the wall line, the curb, the door jambs, the posts and anything the big frame cannot get to. That work has to happen fast and it has to happen wet, because a perimeter that has already started to gel will flash differently than the field and you will see the line.

The 3/8 inch size listed here is the nap. Nap depth controls how much material the cover carries and how it lays down. A shorter nap puts less material on and leaves a smoother, tighter film, which is generally what you want on a cut-in so the perimeter does not sit heavier than the field beside it.

Work ahead of the crew, not behind them. Cut in only as far as the field can reach before the perimeter loses its wet edge, then let the big roller lap into it. On a flake floor, remember that chip has to reach the wall too, so keep the cut-in wet enough to take the broadcast.

What it is used for

  • Cutting in the perimeter of an epoxy or polyaspartic floor
  • Coating around posts, jambs, drains and curbs
  • Small patch and touch-up areas
  • Coving and transition strips a full size frame cannot reach

Questions about this product

What is a mini roller used for on a coated floor?

A mini roller is used to cut in the perimeter of a floor coating, running the wall line, curbs, posts and jambs that a full size roller frame cannot reach. It is done immediately ahead of the field coat so the two areas blend while both are still wet.

What does the 3/8 inch refer to?

On the Linzer Pro Edge mini roller the 3/8 inch is the nap depth, which controls how much coating the cover carries and how the film lays down. A shorter nap puts less material on and leaves a tighter surface, keeping cut-in areas from building heavier than the field.

Why does my perimeter look different from the rest of the floor?

That picture frame effect happens when the cut-in is allowed to gel before the field coat laps into it. Cut in only as far ahead as the crew can reach while the edge is still wet, and use a nap that lays a similar film thickness to the field.

Can I reuse the cover after epoxy?

Mini roller covers used in epoxy, polyaspartic or polyurea are consumables, because the resin cures in the nap and solvent cleaning risks carrying contamination onto the next floor you coat. Buy enough covers for the whole job and plan on discarding them at the end.
