Good to know

  • Flexible follows the slab and keeps material moving. Stiff holds a straighter edge under heavier material.
  • Check both the width and the thickness of your squeegee channel. The right width in the wrong thickness will not seat.
  • A nicked edge leaves ridges and skips the backroll has to correct. Change blades before the pour, not during it.
  • Blades are wear parts. Keep a spare on the truck so a damaged edge never delays a mixed batch.

About the Replacement Rubber Blade

This is the 16 inch rubber blade that does the spreading. On a coating pour the material gets dumped or ribboned onto the slab, a squeegee pushes it out to the target film, and a roller backrolls behind it. The rubber blade is the part in contact with the concrete, and it is the part that wears out.

You choose between flexible and stiff. A flexible blade conforms to the slab and rides over minor undulation, which keeps material moving and suits thinner films and general spreading. A stiff blade holds its edge under load, cuts a more consistent line and resists deflecting when you push heavy or filled material. Crews that do both kinds of work keep one of each in the truck.

The blade is 16 inches wide. Confirm the channel width and mounting on your squeegee frame or blade holder before ordering, since holders vary between manufacturers and a blade that is the right width can still be the wrong thickness for the channel.

Rubber blades are wear parts. A nicked or rounded edge leaves ridges and holidays in the film that the backroll then has to fix, so replace the blade before a floor rather than during one.

What it is used for

  • Spreading epoxy and urethane base coats out to target film
  • Moving self-leveling and flowable material into place
  • Squeegeeing sealers and thin-film coatings on open floor
  • Pulling water and slurry off the slab during grinding and cleanup
  • Replacing a nicked or rounded blade before a scheduled pour

Questions about this product

Should I choose the flexible or stiff rubber blade?

Choose a flexible 16 inch rubber blade when you want the squeegee to follow the slab and keep material moving, which suits thinner films and uneven concrete. Choose stiff when you are pushing heavier or filled material and want the blade to hold a consistent edge without deflecting under load.

Where does the squeegee blade fit in the coating sequence?

The rubber squeegee blade does the spreading step. Material is poured or ribboned onto the slab, the squeegee pushes it out to the target film thickness, and a roller backrolls immediately behind to even the film and remove squeegee lines. The blade is the part touching the concrete, so its condition shows in the finish.

Will this 16 inch blade fit my squeegee frame?

This replacement rubber blade is 16 inches wide, sized for 16 inch squeegee frames and blade holders. Holder channels differ between manufacturers, so check both the width and the blade thickness your holder accepts before ordering. A correct width in the wrong thickness will not seat properly.

How often do rubber squeegee blades need replacing?

Treat a rubber squeegee blade as a wear part and replace it once the edge is nicked, rounded or hardened. A worn edge leaves ridges and thin spots that the backroll then has to correct. Most crews carry a spare so a damaged blade never holds up a mixed batch of coating.
