Good to know

  • Chase the crack before you fill it. A filler dropped into a hairline has nothing to grip. Opening the crack with a crack chaser gives it a proper key and a much longer lasting repair.
  • Fill after grinding, then grind the fill flush. Filling first means you grind most of your material back off and leave cured filler smeared across the surrounding slab.
  • Fast cure means short working time. Mix small batches and place them promptly rather than pouring a full kit and hoping.
  • Tell the customer that moving cracks and control joints can telegraph back through a coating over time. Setting that expectation before the job beats explaining it after.
  • Ships as a regulated liquid under ground shipping rules. Call 817-676-6793 for freight on quantity orders.

About the TCS Crack Filler Kit

TCS Crack Filler is the fast cure crack and joint filler you run before the coating goes down. It is supplied as a 2 gallon kit in a fast cure formulation, which is the version you want when the crack repair sits on the critical path of a one day or two day install.

Crack filling happens after prep and before priming. The sequence that works is grind or shot blast the slab, chase and open the cracks so the filler has somewhere to key into rather than sitting in a hairline, vacuum the dust out, fill, let it cure, then grind the fill flush with the slab. Filling before you grind wastes material and leaves you sanding cured filler off the surrounding concrete.

Fast cure is the whole selling point. Standard fillers can hold up a floor for hours while the crew stands around, and on a residential garage that is the difference between a one day job and a two day job. Fast cure material lets you fill in the morning, grind flush before lunch and be priming in the afternoon. The tradeoff is working time, so mix small batches and only pour what you can place before it starts to set.

One thing to be straight with customers about: a filled crack is a repaired crack, not a disappeared one. Moving cracks and control joints can telegraph back through a coating over time, especially on slabs that are still settling or subject to seasonal movement. Explain that up front. Mix ratio, cure times and full application detail are on the technical data sheet, available on request at 817-676-6793.

What it is used for

  • Filling cracks in garage slabs before coating
  • Control joint fill on commercial floors
  • Fast track installs where cure time is on the critical path
  • Repairing cracks in warehouse and shop floors
  • Prep work ahead of flake and solid color systems

Before you order

Work out how much you need

The most common ordering mistake in this category is buying by the gallon instead of by the floor. Coverage changes with porosity, profile and whether the coat is a base, a broadcast or a topcoat. Put the slab dimensions in and get a range rather than a single number.

How much material do I need?

Enter the slab. We will give you a range, because porosity and surface profile change real coverage.

Floor area
400 sq ft
Base coat
3.1 to 3.4 gal
Topcoat (1 pass)
3.1 to 3.4 gal
Flake
about 8 x 25 lb boxes

Base coat, flake broadcast to rejection, then a clear topcoat. Order roughly 10% over on a first job.

Questions about this product

When do I fill cracks in a floor coating job?

Fill cracks with TCS Crack Filler after the slab has been ground or shot blasted and vacuumed, and before priming. Chase the cracks open first so the filler has something to key into, let it cure, then grind the fill flush with the slab so the coating lays flat across the repair.

How fast does TCS Crack Filler cure?

TCS Crack Filler is supplied in a fast cure formulation specifically so crack repair does not hold up a one day install. Actual cure time varies with temperature and the depth of the fill, and the technical data sheet has the figures. Call 817-676-6793 and we will send it before you order.

Will filled cracks show through the finished floor?

TCS Crack Filler repairs the crack, but a moving crack or a control joint can still telegraph through a coating over time as the slab flexes or settles. Set that expectation with the customer before the job. Flake systems hide repairs far better than solid color or metallic floors do.

How much crack does a 2 gallon TCS Crack Filler kit fill?

Yield from a 2 gallon TCS Crack Filler kit depends on how wide and deep the cracks are and how aggressively they were chased open, so linear footage varies widely between jobs. The technical data sheet has the rate. Call 817-676-6793 and describe the slab and we will help size the order.

Can TCS Crack Filler be used in control joints?

TCS Crack Filler is used for both crack repair and joint fill on floors that are being coated, which is standard practice when the customer wants a continuous surface. Bear in mind that filling a control joint removes its ability to relieve movement, so confirm that is acceptable for the slab.
